Gliffaes - The Walk

Let's start at the lodge.

Here we go:

The Lodge

A winding trail leads from the lodge down a woody slope to the river.

The concept of zig-zag mountain trails got Pandra pretty frazzled.

Were we going forward or back? She constantly overshot the hairpin bends.  

Lisa took it all in her stride. 

At 10 1/2 years og age her attitude seems to be,

that it is a lot more restful to wait for things to develop rather than to make them happen.  

We have seen a trout or two and by now the dogs are  thoroughly wet.

Up we go again, following the trail.

 The water level is not that high. It has been fairly dry for quite a while during late summer.  

 The river Usk from a vantage point somewhat higher up ....

... and from another spot.

 Back on the riverside trail again.

Lush ferns everywhere by the river bank. 

We now have the choice of staying close to the river and walking across a meadow or following another trail,

 which leads through the wood, where I'm sure Winnie the Pooh and his buddies hang out.

The choice is easy. Winnie wins paws down.

A truely magical beech-tree.

The trunk seems to be wrought and welded.

A joint venture between oak and ivy.  

 We go on following the trail

and emerge from the green tunnel by the back of the house.

The dogs get a snack now 

and a quick shower later it's time for a Welsh Breakfast. 

I could get used to starting the day like this.
